Arcadia Park Designs
timeless artistry from artist/photographer Katherine Henry…
“I am happiest behind the lens and in my studio, most alive when the things I think about materialize, from my head to my hands. The home decor pieces give me an opportunity to distill and share that excitement with an entirely new audience.
What is more interesting than to explore the streets and byways of older cities, revisiting the often seen with a fresh perspective? I am drawn to the great architecture and sublime sculpture, a fading fresco and broken statuary, the quiet corner and the blazing triumph of the grand expression, be it stained glass window or gilded cornice. Also to the faded moment, the enduring more than the freshly minted but also the juxtaposition of the two, the last and the first light of day, the very transience of every breath. I love most the imperfections, because in these lie the stories.”
There is no one decor or type of interior where these pillows will be most at home. Traditional, elegant, rustic, transitional or sleekly modern, we believe one of the collections will find its way into your imagination.
Many textiles that we see today are designed to be tiled and repeated to create a cloth from which pieces may be cut for multiple uses. Our designs are purposefully and specifically composed and scaled for the pieces they will be printed on. The images are printed by the artist in her Vermont studio, on the same printers used for creating fine art prints, on 100% silk. The fabric backs from the current collections are elegant silks. For health and environmental reasons the pillow insert is hypoallergenic cruelty free faux down. Each piece is made by hand with care.

Supporting the Community and being humane… At Arcadia Park Designs we don’t believe that the community stops at the edge of town. Our community encompasses the place that we live and the lives we touch beyond that physical boundary. We strongly believe that the key to all freedoms is in education. Most recently we have donated to the Still We Rise auctions supporting various important organizations such as the Southern Poverty Law Center and Planned Parenthood and have sent flowers via Flowers for Dreams, supporting a variety of charities in the Greater Chicago area. In the past we have made annual donations to Boundless Readers, an organization that promotes literacy. We recommend you check out literacy programs in your own hometown.
One of the ways we can help support programs like these is through the Amazon smile program, which gives a portion of all of our office supply and miscellaneous small dollar spending to the Not For Profit of our choice. If we are going to be using a large corporate source, at least we are also helping an organization we believe in! While we do use Amazon in order to get items hard to come by in rural Vermont, it is also of tremendous importance to us is that we contract with local and regional small businesses.. When we have had to make choices about sourcing from afar, we still work with small US based companies to bring the highest quality components to our product. We want to make the perfect pillow – not only beautiful and tactile, but also the pillow that gives back! Our pillows are designed and printed in our studio and, when on occasion not completely finished in our studio, constructed locally by very skilled women in business for themselves. This is part of our commitment to our community and the timeless artistry we believe is at the root of our business.
In our desire to make that perfect designer pillow, we also don’t want any animals to come to harm. There are several places on this website that speak to this subject. Here, I will just reiterate, we don’t use down. Not because we want to save money on making the pillows, but because we simply cannot know that the down was ethically or humanely sourced. Faux down is clean, hypoallergenic and has a great weight and feel…what is the advantage of having down in a pillow? We have yet to be able to answer that question, however we can easily see many advantages to having faux down in our pillows.
In 2015 we joined the ranks of many small companies across the country who are helping to support the search for a cure for breast cancer. In 2016 we introduced the Victory pillow. 50% of all future proceeds from the Victory pillow will go to the Breast Cancer Research Fund in NY. Every year we will introduce a new pillow to the line of “awareness” pillows. Last years “Victory” pillow was dedicated to some fighters we know; Judy, Karol and Jan.
This year we are beginning a new campaign to support arts education for kids. The arts bring balance to young lives, providing outlets for energy, promoting creative and critical thinking skills and broadening the the scope of a young person’s lanscape. We believe that this is vital in these times of uncertainty. Children are quite plainly the future, we must give them every possible tool toward buiding a healthy, sane, informed and peaceful life. We want to help and are starting to help support organizations the promote arts education in and out of schools and museums by donating a portion of our proceeds. Currently we are looking at three possible recipients and will be announcing our decision this summer (2018).
